Department for Curriculum and Instruction

The Valhalla Union Free School District is committed to ensuring the success of all students and to advance the mission:
“to educate students to develop desired moral, ethical, and cultural values, to stimulate and expand learning, and to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the rights and responsibilities of citizens of a democratic society.”

The Department for Curriculum and Instruction works in collaboration with administrators, teachers, families and community members to:
  • equip students with academic, social and emotional skills that are critical for success
  • explore new opportunities to engage students in learner-centered experiences
  • identify and implement instructional practices that work best to accelerate student learning
  • use a variety of data to identify student learning needs, monitor progress and sustain continuous improvement
  • align K-12 curriculum and instruction to the New York State Learning Standards
  • provide professional learning opportunities aligned to district priorities and those that are focused on improved student learning
  • provide ongoing opportunities to ensure that all students develop the skills and motivation to collaborate, communicate, problem-solve and engage in our global world
